NIEHS Gap Analysis of Campus and Zone Perimeter Study
NIEHS, co-located with the EPA on a 500+ acre research campus, needed a security review that balanced open access with federal protection standards. iParametrics was selected to conduct a detailed perimeter and zone-specific security gap analysis to reduce vulnerabilities while preserving environmental design integrity.
Situation
The NIEHS/EPA campus includes research labs, childcare, and public-access spaces. The challenge was to standardize security while addressing the separate needs of NIEHS and EPA zones. Security had to align with federal policy, environmental sensitivity, and operational continuity.
Task
iParametrics was tasked with conducting a gap analysis aligned with ISC RMP, NIH policy, and federal guidelines. We assessed current security levels, identified protection shortfalls, and recommended procedural, technological, and design-based measures to mitigate risk.
Action
Our team conducted on-site and virtual interviews, performed CPTED-based assessments, and used Design Basis Threat methodology to identify vulnerabilities. We provided technology-based recommendations, cost estimates, and strategic return-on-investment evaluations.
Result
iParametrics delivered a comprehensive security gap report with tailored actions to mitigate risk and enhance perimeter protection. Despite a complex multi-agency setting and aggressive 90-day schedule, the project was completed ahead of time and on budget.
