Fayette County, GA: Hazard Mitigation Plan Update
Fayette County, Georgia, located just south of Atlanta, is updating its Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) to meet FEMA and state requirements. With population growth and increasing risks from storms, flooding, and tornadoes, the county seeks a modern, compliant plan to enhance resilience and secure future federal mitigation funding.
Situation
iParametrics was contracted to lead the plan update process, ensuring compliance with FEMA standards while addressing evolving hazards and demographic trends. The county sought an accessible, actionable, and locally informed strategy to prepare for future disaster risks.
Task
The scope included updating hazard profiles, risk assessments, public engagement strategies, mitigation goals, and actions. iParametrics was also responsible for producing a user-friendly, data-supported HMP that satisfies federal and state planning requirements.
Action
We launched a phased process that engaged the Local Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee, updated the county’s profile and hazard data, and integrated GIS to assess vulnerability. We developed a strategy for cross-jurisdictional engagement and began building a comprehensive mitigation action database.
Result
The project remains on track and under budget. To date, we have completed major planning milestones including hazard analysis and stakeholder engagement. With strong local involvement and alignment to FEMA and GEMA guidelines, the county is well-positioned for plan approval and future funding eligibility.
