The Unified Government of Wyandotte County & Kansas City, Kansas:

Hazard Mitigation Plan Update

Home to nearly 170,000 residents, Wyandotte County operates under a unified government with Kansas City. The County needed to update its Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) to meet FEMA standards, improve resilience, and ensure access to federal mitigation funds. iParametrics provided comprehensive support to help achieve these goals.

Situation

The Unified Government (UG) sought technical expertise to revise its Hazard Mitigation Plan in compliance with federal standards. The update aimed to strengthen resilience against natural and man-made hazards while positioning them for future funding.

Task

The scope included updating hazard profiles, risk assessments, public engagement strategies, mitigation goals, and actions. iParametrics was also responsible for producing a user-friendly, data-supported HMP that satisfies federal and state planning requirements.

Action

We maintained a transparent, budget-conscious process and collaborated with UG officials through regular updates and workshops. Our team ensured alignment between technical documentation and community expectations while supporting the creation of supplemental planning tools.

Result

The updated plan met FEMA standards, captured local input, and was delivered on time and within budget. UG is now well-positioned for adoption and federal grant eligibility, with an HMP tailored to its specific operational and hazard landscape.
