The Georgia Mountain Regional Commission covers counties of Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White, and 38 municipalities within these counties, in northern Georgia.

SITUATION

The region covered by the Georgia Mountain Regional Commission was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. GMRC leadership decided to hire a consultant to support regional disaster recovery efforts related to the pandemic to expedite financial recovery and mitigation to minimize impacts from future disasters.

TASK

iParametrics was engaged to advise GMRC and its member counties and cities on how to effectively use the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Securities (CARES) Act funds to create economic development and recovery opportunities for the counties in its region. The team will provide the Commission with a Pandemic Transmission Analysis and Planning Toolkit, comprehensive economic development strategies, County Economic Recovery Plan Template, and in-person and online training.

ACTION

iParametrics servces as a liaison and coordinator for GMRC to build relationships with businesses and governments and support these local economies to recover from the Coronavirus shutdown. Additionally, we are facilitating the region’s efforts to build a more resilient economy, working for the purpose of revitalizing, expanding, and upgrading distressed communities’ physical infrastructure to attract new industry, encourage business expansion, and generate or retain long-term private sector jobs and investments to strengthen recovery and resiliency.

RESULT

This project is ongoing. Our Project Lead is working with the GMRC to build the deliverables agreed upon with the Commission, including surveys, toolkits, and templates, to assist in recovery efforts.
